Blog Journal #4

After reviewing the given ELA technology standards, i decided to place my focus on Kindergarten standards. There was only one standard, LAFS.K.W.2.6, and i would describe it as the expectation for educators to start slowly integrating efficient technologies into the lesson plans for their young students through creative and collaborative measures. The standard explains that the teachers should explore plenty of digital tools in their classroom. This could be done with simply projecting information on an electronic border such as SmartBoard or Promethean board activities or even encouraging at home creative play with programs such as Paint or StoryJumper. I feel prepared to implement this standard in my prospective Kindergarten classroom because i am very familiar with all these applications. This allows me to properly introduce this type of technology to a young group of children.

I fully looked into the CPALMS educational toolkit and felt drawn towards the Kindergarten section. In this section, i chose to focus on the Mathematical standards. The mathematical standard that I feel is extremely valuable is MA.K12.MTR.7.1 : Apply mathematics to real-world contexts. The resources provided are two lesson plans and 1 video, and these resources could be used in my teaching because they are organized, efficient, and give strong examples. For insane, providing an example of real-world math that connects with cookies is efficient with this young age group because it will engage them and simultaneously implement the skill into their brain.

No matter what grade or type of classroom, I believe that being a proficient internet searcher is an irreplaceable trait for a teacher. It is clear that proficient Internet searchers are able to access a vast array of educational resources, lesson plans, and teaching materials to enhance the quality of education. Additionally, it empowers teachers to stay updated with the latest educational trends and research to better set up the future generations. For kindergarten students, developing basic Internet searching skills lays the foundation for digital literacy and fosters curiosity and independent learning. Among the Internet searching skills introduced this week, I believe the skill of using simple keywords and understanding advanced searching features will be most utilized in my teaching practice moving forward. I believe technology is always changing so i will need to keep myself updated on new and improved search engines.
